How do you guys wash your non-superwash socks? I remember reading about one woman who would wear them in the shower and hang them on the towel rack to dry when she got out. Mine's weirder and a bit more embarassing so I want to hear about how you all do it too.
If you really want to know I tend to bathe semi-Japanese style where the bathtub is just for soaking and reading paperbacks while the shower is for the cleaning. So when I'm running the bath (always with salts or bubbles) I toss my socks in there. I never wear my handknit socks anywhere that's going to get them really dirty anyway so it's not like they're filthy they usually just need a rinse. So I use bath bubbles to clean them, rinse them under the tap, then hang them on the safety bar to dry.
Oh yeah like you don't do weird stuff sometimes, ye yarn sniffers! :p

I've taken to discreetly sniffing for a vinegar smell in wool or roving. It makes me quite happy.
I think your method sounds great. Mine's pretty basic...a clean sink, some gentle soap, a little loving and gentle agitation, a rinse in the same temperature.

Hey hey hey, I like the new bloggy look! You've been havin fun, haven't you?
About washing socks: I like to throw stuff in the washer, so I don't make socks out of handwash anymore. I used to, but found that the unwashed pile of handwash stuff just kept getting bigger and bigger. Sigh. Now even if I want to spin for socks, I spin with superwash... okay, so I'm lazy. I knew that.

I am with you on the baths! Baths are generally not about getting clean for me; they are about alone time, reading time, relaxing time. Showers are my get clean quick option.

This has nothing to do with socks, but I thought you'd find this funny: http://www.wikihow.com/Make-a-Bra-Purse

I'm with you on the bathing and with Bev on the sock bathing. Although, I have tossed house socks in the dryer for a brief spin to get the ribbing back into shape.

Washing non-superwash socks? Here is what I do:
1. Fill bathroom sink up with cold water
2. add a little shampoo
3. forget about socks in sink until I need to brush my teeth
4. wring out socks, hang on shower curtain rod
5. Chase cat with sock in it's mouth that fell off of said shower curtain rod ;-)
