Is this how people in other countries really feel? Do they really believe that the people in New Orleans have free access to the big US government coffers and just choose to live in abject poverty and not be able to escape the direct hit of a cat 5 hurricaine? That all people are doing is raping and stealing and shooting and nothing else?
It seems that people like this forget how completely outrageous it is to assume that every single person from a country are all exactly the same. That we all believed in and supported the war, that we all voted for Bush and all we believe in Jesus, guns, and the American dollar. This same person would be fucking livid if I said "All Australians are..blahblahblah" and ya know what? I never would.
But amazingly I've actually been to his country and not only have been to every goddamned state in it I even know their proper geography. Unlike him: "I have the deepest sympathy for what�s happening to the people of Mississippi, Louisiana, Tennessee and the other states ravaged by Katrina" Shut up you fucking moron. You claim to know the intricate workings of this country and don't even know which states were affected. You are a self-righteous asshole who is using a very large human tragedy to tout your hypocritical political beliefs, almost taking glee in watching a country that may be far from fucking perfect but has millions of good people in it despite how some behave as it falls apart? How dare you claim to know what we're all doing here and think you have any right to decide who is and isn't worthy of help? You are no better than Pat Robertson or George Bush you're just a heartless asshole in liberal clothing.
I'm not sure of your affliation and I think that person is generally a fuck nut, but I do agree with the last part of his/her/it's second post.
We have fucked up this country and sometimes I seriously think it's beyond repair. We have also fucked ourselves in the eyes of other countries. I would blame Bush(and I do) but I blame us more because some of us were the idiots who re-elected a moron of the highest caliber. But that's just my opinion.

its interesting for me to read his blog and your response to it, my partner and I were recently discussing what the response would be if something like this happened in Australia and the only conclusion we could up with is that it would probably be quite similar, if not worse. The basic animal survival skills that kick in causing the fight or flight symptons of killing and rape we have been hearing about in the news apply to all of us, nationality notwithstanding, and it is my understanding that part of the problem with getting assistance to the affected people has been due to the extensive area that has been affected. Sure America may be rich in resources, but resources still take time to be managed, deployed and actually arrive to provide that assistance. To me the events of the last week and back to the tsunami in december should act as an equaliser not a divider. Against the forces of nature we can be nothing but the frail human beings that we are.

This assmonkey only has half the story. Yes, more money than the individual can comprehend has gone into the war. Yes our GDP is huge, but so is our national debt, partially because of the help we've given others.
And New Orleans being one of the richest cities? Somehow the sheer percentage of those living at or below the poverty line should debunk that mythical thinking.
Just because our nation is run by asshats, does not make us all, by association, asshats. Around half of us didn't even vote for the performing monkey we have in office. Now everyone knows why, he's a complete idiot and has driven us into trouble quicker than any of his recent successors. Thank goodness we won't be subjected to another term with him. The country wouldn't survive.
And his beef about how rich we are as a nation (what we spend on toilet paper for instance) is bullshit. We got there on our own, we should be able to enjoy the fruits of our labors, without being made to feel guilty about it. There will always be haves and have nots, and yes, we are lucky to be in a nation of haves, but we have a lot of have nots here too.
If he's got a cure for poverty and unemployment, I for one would be happy to hear it.
