I mailed out the four disks for this season's Burn It yesterday. My printer hasn't been recognizing my new color cartridge so I didn't get that creative with the label and cover art this time. I'd printed them in black and white and planned on spiffing them up with markers but I'm just too lazy for that kind of nonsense. But I got them done and mailed out one day before the due date so I'm proud. I think it's a pretty good blend of remixes with a few mashups for fun.
I already have two disks from the group! They're great, of course. So thank you Buccho for your yummy Mashed Potatoes and Lisa for all the great industrial stuff! I hope ya'll enjoy what I've put together. They should be there by midway next week. :)
This is the mix I went with this time:
A:Xus - Baghdad Cafe (Callin' U)
ABC - Be Near Me (Munich Disco Mix)
Cropstar - Crazy Prado (Perez "Prez" Prado vs. Beyonce Knowles)
Alphaville - Forever Young (Remix - Extended Version)
Miss Jane - Its A Fine Day (ATB Remix)
White Zombie - I'm Your Boogie Man (Sex on the Rocks Mix)
Altered Images - I Could Be Happy (Martin Rushent Remix)
KMFDM - Juke Joint Jezebel (Giorgio Moroder Metropolis Mix)
Nicolette Larson - Lotta Love (The Lotta Nic Mix)
Erasure - Make Me Smile (Come Up and See Me) - Manhattan Clique Extended Mix
Skeewiff - O Skeewiff where Art Thou?
Electronic - Prodigal Son (Touched By the Hand of Inch Remix)
Cropstar - The Only One in the Rain (Blue Pearl vs. The Charlatans)
DJ Riko - Whistler's Delight
Seems it's time for the The Winter 2004 Edition of Neurotic Fishbowl's Burn It. I opted out of the Fall 04 edition because the theme, while interesting, just didn't inspire me. I haven't been in school in years (and frankly didn't like it much when I was there) but mostly because I didn't get all the cds from my Summer 04 group and I was still annoyed about that.
In fact, I got all the cds but one. And what kind of chaps my ass is the person whose cd never got here is a semi-famous blogger too. She's almost always on other semi-famous blogrolls and while I never really got into her site much before, since the exchange all I think when I see her linked on other sites is, "You never sent your cd! You suck!" And she was even hosting some kind of cd exchange on her own site but damned if I was going to sign up for that.
I'm not trying to start some big blog valley high drama it was just annoying to me because I worked hard on my cd, buying songs on itunes, making cool labels and liner notes, getting neat little envelopes for them, bought little extra goodies like stickers and balloons to put in with the disc, even mailing it out before the deadline and she didn't even send the friggin music she agreed to do when she signed up. So seeing all that linky love for her annoys me sometimes. That's all.
Anyway, I found this new theme, remixes, to be a fun one. Probably inspired by that really cool What is Hip cd Kymberlie mentioned a while back which I've really been enjoying - as was my dad when I uploaded it onto his computer over christmas. So I'm going to bite the bullet and sign up for this one. And I'll try not to take it personally if I never get any cds back.
But I'm telling you this now: if you never sent your Burn it discs out (or, for that matter, never bought your secret santa gift - especially if you didn't send one to the cool woman who was my secret santa) I'm completely and totally a better person than you are and you SUCK.
However, it's not too late to redeem yourself! Even if it was for Christmas 2003 you can still send something! Include a note explaining how sorry you are that you suck so much. Throw in an extra cd! Or buy something worth twice the amount you were originally supposed to for the secret santa drawing! At least try to renew your jilted person's faith in humanity and exchange games. You'll feel better. And that weird nagging feeling of guilt will be magically gone! Unless you forgot to do something else...
So go sign up but ONLY if you're going to actually send your discs ok? Seriously. Don't bother if you're not going to send them. Because it only makes you completely and totally SUCK and people to stop signing up for cool things like this.
So I finished my choices for the Summer 04 Burn It. It's a nice blend I think. I didn't get everything I wanted on there - couldn't find all the songs I wanted online and didn't have the cds but I still had to narrow about 60 tracks down to 25 and that hurt a lot. But I think this is a nice combination of my varied music, and movie, tastes.
Considering the soundtrack theme this was a great source.
A weird love theme emerged so I'm calling it "Some Kinda Love Soundtrack" - a hat tip to one of my favorite bands who didn't make the cut (but one of its former members did).
Anyway, here's the list:
So now I'm working on the label and covers. Once I get the addresses for my group I'll be sending them out. I'm making five extra copies so if you're reallyreallyreally nice and email me your address I'll send one to you too.
So I signed up for this summer's Burn it session at The Neurotic Fishbowl. Now I'm obsessively making a list of songs from movies. I went through my enormous favorite films list at imdb and if it had a soundtrack link I checked it.
And a pattern of 70s songs seems to be emerging. Summer always kinda makes me want to wear a tacky halter top, grow long scraggly hair, and listen to classic rock. Back to my Alabama roots? Old-school Mountain Dew commercial fantasy? The desire to be back in Panama City? Who knows. Nah it's not all classic rawk it's mostly funk, can't forget punk, some disco, and, yes, some (less known) classic rock songs. If you're in my group please don't hate me :)
Or should I forego the 70s theme and just choose a bunch of cool songs? The theme looked like it would be kinda fun though. Think I would get in trouble if I made two disks? I'm so bad at making decisions.

Also, we went shopping on Saturday and I bought all kinds of fun stuff. Including a new dress for the next wedding. It's outside in July so I wanted something less formal than my usual wedding wear. I tried this one on and was totally surprised to find how cute I looked in it. The first one was too big so I had to get a smaller one. That means I'm now two sizes smaller than I was a year ago. Slowly but surely right?
Oh by the way. If you check this before you call: Jocelyn, I called the gym and they're on regular hours today.
