fleeting thoughts.

I’m doing pretty well today considering I have the pain threshold of a small gnat and had an incredibly invasive dental procedure yesterday. I’m feeling more emotionally bruised than the physical pain really merits. But the words root! canal! are scary and I’m pretty good at feeling sorry for myself. I’m doing my best to just not think about it.
I have plenty to do today to keep myself distracted though. Tonight is the annual Aunts’ ornament party and since a bonafide member of my in-laws will be picking me up at my house there is tidying to be done. Not a whole lot, but enough so that it doesn’t get back to the mil that we live like technologically-inclined fiberholic frat boys who drink sodas instead of beer, even though we definitely do.
I also have laundry to do so I’ll have something non-smelly to wear the next two days. And I’ve loaded the ipod with music and a few books on tape. I’m also packing a book. And much knitting. And some really cool custom merino and silk spinning fiber called “sweet potato” and a drop spindle. And my bathing suit because the in-laws have a humongo hot tub. I like to have something to do at all times there. In case I need to really concentrate and avoid discussing politics and/or god. Well, my teeth aren’t really in good enough shape for tongue biting so I’ve gotta do something!
I’m bummed I’ll be missing Beverly’s big yarn swap tonight. It sounds like it’ll be fun. I did send some yarn in my place so hopefully the little skeins will find good homes and everyone will have fun.
I’ve discovered the good part about knitting gifts for xmaskah: you get to buy cool yarn. Fun!

root canal. Yeah. So I’m taking prescription drugs, finishing my smoothie drink, and going to bed now.
Here’s some yarn porn to keep you busy. Let’s just pretend it’s Saturday.
That’s the muscadine wine yarn I was talking about. Best I’ve spun yet. And if you reallyreally like it, it’s for sale!

So I finished the other sock this morning. Have to say I’m very proud that I got the stripes to match. Yeah I manipulated the self-striping yarn a little.
Then felted it in the washing machine for a bit. I’ve been wearing them over a pair of socks today so they’ve really molded to my feet.
A few notes: the cuffs were knit several inches taller than the pattern called for so they’re definitely more like booties. They’ll be perfect for spinning on cold nights. Also, I knit completely on dpns because the circs were stretching the yarn more than I was comfortable with.
This pattern is brilliant. Simply brilliant. Now I’m thinking of making some for a few people for giftmas.
*My very first night on AOL waaaay back in 1995 I was wandering around the chat rooms and on a whim went into a room called “Foot Fun”. I used to draw my feet a lot because they were always there to stay still for me. Not sure what I was thinking about entering a room called “Foot Fun” but I soon found out it was a chatroom full of foot fetishists. Welcome to the internets.
We had a lot of trick or treaters last night. Well, I should say I had a lot of trick or treaters because Cody was at work. Gave away most of our candy. Mental note: do not tell cheeky nine year old boys to “just grab what they want” because they will. In my defense all the children in the years before him had been so intimidated by the possibilities that they actually did just grab a few treats. Not this kid. Someone always has to ruin the party for the others. Now I do the doling out dammit.
In other news I washed and set some yarn today.
And I’m trying to knit this hat in the October Song yarn but I’m not sure if I have enough yarn for it. We’ll see.
