I still haven’t had a chance to go buy swimmer’s shampoo but I read a few articles about home remedies so here I sit eating a popsicle with a can of tomato paste in my hair. I smell so yummy and look even better. Hopefully this won’t react with my months-old dye job and turn my hair blue or something.

With all the swimming my hair has become really gross and tangly. I’ve been meaning to get a swimmer’s shampoo but kept forgetting. We were down at the in-laws’ house last night to do more tech support and get Cody a haircut. On a whim I asked Ruth to give me a pretty short cut too.

On the way home we went to the store to get a few things and were going to get yet another disposable camera because we’ve been too lazy to use the 35 mm or get the digital camera hooked up. Cody spotted a 20 dollar digital camera and just had to get that instead of another thirteen dollar disposable one.

So we tested the camera out today to show my new hair. This was after a night’s sleep on the haircut and I don’t think there are photos of me in my glasses either so it’s not me looking my best. It’s not the best quality photos in the world either - about the same as a mobile phone camera. But, hey, it was twenty bucks. And I really like this haircut and being able to see. :)

Pika posted some photos from her trip to the New Mexico State Fair including the toe ring tent.

The Justice Card

You are the Justice card. Justice preserves the harmony of the world. Working with opposite forces, Justice does not seek to criticize or condemn but rather to accept. The idea behind the card justice is that opposite forces are complementary; you could not have good without evil or light without darkness. Justice’s position is to make sure that if a thing is out of balance, the weight of its energy is realigned with its opposite force. This card is also a card of humour, for it is in pointing out contrary positions that humour is often found. The attitude that is found in the humourous person, being able to shift perspective and flow with an instinct, is important in the maintenance of good balance.

The night is very cold
I’m feeling kind of weak.

I think I’ll make myself a cap
from your right buttock’s cheek.

And then I will go walking with my little dog.

And then I’ll bury you underneath a log.

It rubs the lotion on its skin.
Or else it gets the hose again.

was not as bad as I expected it to be. It’s always a love or hate thing for me with Cohen brother movies. LOVED Fargo (hon? prowler needs a jump) and The Hudsucker Proxy - didn’t like Blood Simple or The Big Lebowski much. Still haven’t seen Miller’s Crossing or Barton Fink in their entirety. O Brother, Where Art Thou? and Raising Arizona, well, they were genius in their own not quite true about the part of the world they’re set in but damn good nonetheless ways - guess the same could be said about Fargo but I’ve never been there.

So I was surprised that I enjoyed Intolerable Cruelty as much as I did. The plot was so-so but some of the dialogue was incredibly funny. Especially in the first 45 minutes. Love that 1930s comedy rattattat rhythm - think Rosalind Russell in His Girl Friday - where you *really* have to listen to what they’re saying. And shockingly Clooney and Zeta-Jones pulled it off.

I’ve never been a big fan of George Clooney really. I don’t usually like my men that chiseled and tanned. I’d heard vague things about his politics that I liked but that was pretty much all the thought I’d given him. But he seems to *get* the Cohens’ humor and express it fairly well. They seem to like giving him a weird-ass narcissistic physical obsession though - his over fop-ed hair in Oh Brother and blinding pearly whites in this one. Kind of an oversimplified way to create a character but I like watching the man act like a goofball it makes him human. Dare I say like Cary Grant with his vaudeville background?

So turn me over and paint my ass blue, folks, I’m as shocked as you are but I kind of enjoyed it.

I’m thinking about rejoining netflix. We used it when it first started but canceled it because we usually only ended up watching about three dvds a month between my lazy ass and the postal service. But there have been some releases lately that I’ve wanted to see without buying them and I hate to bum a ride just to go rent a video.

LOS ANGELES (AP) - Johnny Ramone, guitarist and co-founder of the seminal punk band “The Ramones,” has died. He was 55.

Ramone died in his sleep Wednesday afternoon at his Los Angeles home surrounded by friends and family, his publicist said. He had battled prostate cancer for five years, and was hospitalized in June at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.

Ramone, born John Cummings, was one of the original members of the Ramones, whose hit songs “I Wanna be sedated” and “Blitzkrieg Bop,” among others, earned the band induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2002.

The band’s singer, Joey Ramone, whose real name was Jeff Hyman, died in 2001 of lymphatic cancer. Bassist Dee Dee Ramone, who was born Douglas Colvin, died from a drug overdose in 2002.

Johnny Ramone founded “The Ramones” in 1974 with Joey Ramone, DeeDee Ramone and Tommy Ramone, the only surviving member of the original band.

A tribute concert and cancer research fund-raiser was held Sunday in Los Angeles to celebrate the band’s 30th anniversary. It featured performances by Los Angeles punk band X, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Henry Rollins and others.

Along with his wife, Linda Cummings, Johnny Ramone was surrounded at his death by friends Eddie and Jill Vedder, and Rob and Sherrie Zombie. Other friends who gathered at his Los Angeles home included Lisa Marie Presley, Pete Yorn, Vincent Gallo and Talia Shire.

Excite News

Article about Johnny’s partisanship.

For every family of Baldwins there’s a Stephen, right?

But, hey, I can forgive him being a right wing mutherfucker. He was smart enough to help start one of the world’s best bands. But hanging out with Vincent Gallo? That’s just nasty.

This is interesting..

Rosemarie Fiore rides the whirligig and plays pinball - and turns the experience into art. Cool.

It represents the link between the old world’s rush of simply being in motion (which itself recalls the primitive Russian ice slides of the 1700s) and the new turbo-charged world of the Raptor, where riders are strapped in with powerful foam restraining devices as their legs dangle freely at 60 mph over the bunnyhops, and then slowly revolve as they plunge into a horseshoe turn.

Pop art, motion theory, spirography, and amusement park pop psychology.

and I can’t resist quoting this-

Not to sound melodramatic or alarmist, but in an age when glassy-eyed and twitchy latchkey kids are logging six hours straight on Sonic the Hedgehog-alone-it’s reassuring to know that actual hedgehogs, albeit fiberglass with bucket seats, possess enough reanimated charm to bring thousands of kids together every day.

Show a kid a real hedgehog and, believe me, they’d be charmed. Take it from someone who’s done it with the most world-weary cynical little teenagers you’ve ever seen :) They cannot resist the weird cuteness of the hedgehog.

Fun things we did today

  • Parked at the coors ‘park and ride’ lot and rode the bus (surprisingly fun because I haven’t ridden on a bus in ages)
  • Ate Indian fry bread, falafel, and a green chile tortilla burger
  • Walked around and saw all kinds of cool Hispanic religious art and Native American art - including a nice piece by little John’s dad we have a kitchen saint retablo of his :)
  • Saw many many light-up plastic Ladies of Guadalupe - Lady of Guadalupes? Lady of Guadalupe’s?

  • Took a quiz at a pro-choice booth and won a button that says “Curb Your Dogma”
  • Watched young women compete in the western horse dressage
  • Watched a blacksmith
  • Ate roasted corn on a stick and drank lemonade
  • Fed cute little baby lambs, goats, pigs, and llamas at the petting zoo!
  • Walked to the Indian village and watched Apache dancers then listened to a pan flute band from Ecuador
  • Cody got a fried twinkie and Navajo taco (I had a bite of each and a limeade)
  • Walked around and shopped at the fairy wings and sparkly halos booths. yes, really. ok it was for little girls
  • Tempted by Pika’s post, I had to get a little gold custom fitted toe ring it matches my wedding band! First time anyone other than a doctor or a relative has touched my feet. Maybe I’ll get a pedicure now. Don’t look at me like that I don’t wear open-toed sandals in public.
  • Walked around the midway and ignored all the people running the games
  • Made Cody ride a silly haunted house ride with me. Those seats have shrunk!
  • We both registered to vote (I re-registered to be sure there wouldn’t be any snags in November) at the Kerry-Edwards tent and got a bumper sticker that says unidos con kerry/edwards
  • Got watermelon Hawaiian ices and looked at fuzzy cowboy hats for sale
  • Bought a giant smoked turkey leg to go and took the bus home with a bunch of annoying people and their kids
  • Was harassed by the pets while I ate my turkey leg in front of the computer.
  • Now my shirt smells smoky and I want to go swimming.

I didn’t get a chile relleno on a stick and I’m kind of bummed about that.

My conclusions: Today was not a day to think about calories. I still don’t like small children. I wish I’d known about the smoked turkey leg thing a long time ago. I’m in much better shape than I was last year I would not have managed all that walking around before. I love living in New Mexico it’s so weird.
